Rare Plant Fairs brings together some of the finest specialist nurseries in the country. Visiting one of their events is an unmissable treat, and Salthrop is one of my favourites because of its exquisite setting.
Salthrop House, home of acclaimed designer Sophie Conran, is a 200-year-old manor house in Wiltshire. It is set on the edge of the Marlborough Downs. The gardens contain a fabulous variety of perennials, shrubs, roses, herbaceous borders, and beautifully planted pots brimming with tulips. Each area has a distinctive character, from the peaceful fern garden to the long borders, all surrounded by sweeping lawns and lush meadows.
Sunday, 11th May, 11 am-4 pm.
Adults £7.50. Admission includes the fair and garden. Children under 16 are free.
There is on-site parking adjacent to the garden entrance, and disabled parking is available immediately next to the entrance on a first-come, first-served basis.
The majority of the fair and gardens are accessible to wheelchairs and those with mobility issues. However, the main drives and paths are covered with gravel. An accessible toilet is available.
Teas, coffee, lunch, and fantastic cakes will be available on the rear terrace.
