It's taken me three years to get a place at this prestigious early spring plant fair, and I am delighted to be joining Rare Plant Fairs for their first event of 2025.
The Bishop’s Palace lies at the heart of the historic City of Wells and is a breathtaking backdrop for this popular curtain raiser to the Rare Plant Fair season. Hidden within the ancient ramparts and protected by a moat, 14 acres of stunning, tranquil gardens await you. Wander along herbaceous borders, admire the beautiful views of the gardens, moat and further afield from the top of the ramparts, meander through the Arboretum and enjoy the reflection of Wells Cathedral in one of the well pools.
Admission is £8.00 per adult and includes the Fair and Gardens. Children under 16 are free, and Friends of the Palace and Annual Pass holders are also free. There is no need to prebook.
Please note that there is no parking at the Bishop's Palace. Visitors can use the public car parks in the city centre. At the Palace Gate, there will be a drive-up pick-up point for collecting purchases at the end of your visit. Disabled or elderly visitors may also be dropped off and picked up at the Palace Gate.
The Bishop's Table restaurant will serve lunches and refreshments. Picnics are welcome throughout the grounds and gardens, and dogs on short leads are welcome.
